Due to economic growth, immigration and heat pumps, the power grid in Oranienburg is reaching its limits. New connections are temporarily not possible. But now the city is presenting a solution.

The Brandenburg city of Oranienburg has apparently solved the recently discovered capacity problems with the electricity supply, due to which no new connections to the electricity grid are possible. This is reported by RBB, citing a statement from the city of Oranienburg and the local municipal utilities.

Accordingly, the network operator can now provide increased output so that new households can be reconnected to the power grid from May. This also applies to increases in performance beyond the existing supply, such as for heat pumps or charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

According to the report, a further increase in performance will also be made available for the Oranienburg local network from September this year. The municipal utilities are also planning to build a temporary substation to prevent electricity from becoming scarce again. A regular substation is currently being built. However, this should not be completed until 2026.

Around two weeks ago, the municipal utilities announced that there was currently no capacity for further connections to the high-voltage network. “In order to keep the electricity network in Oranienburg stable, the municipal utilities can no longer approve new registrations or increases in the performance of house connections.” Existing contracts are not affected by the measures, it said. According to the municipal utilities, strong economic growth, the influx of new residents and the increased installation of heat pumps have led to an increased demand for electricity in Oranienburg.
