The AfD benefits again from a million dollar donation. According to research, however, not everything could have been received with right things. A spokesman for party leader Weidel counters the accusation that the money had reached the cash register via a straw man. But the latter is no stranger.
The AfD has rejected reports of a possibly illegal large donation to the party. “The AfD strictly adheres to the legal requirements in receiving party donations and also exchanges the Bundestag administration closely,” said a spokesman for party leader Alice Weidel.
According to the AfD, the large donor, which is in reports of the “Spiegel”, the Austrian “Standard” and the ZDF program “frontal”, assures that the grant came from its own assets and “in particular did not take place on behalf of third parties”. The origin of party donations about third parties – so -called straw men – violates the party law.
The background to the current reports is a donation of around 2.35 million euros that the AfD had reported to the Bundestag administration. According to research by “Spiegel”, “Standard” and ZDF, there is suspicion that the million -dollar transaction was only forwarded.
According to reports, there should be investigations in Austria that the official donor, the former FPÖ official Gerhard Dingler, is said to have previously received a gift of a similar amount from a third party. The latter is said to be the real estate billionaire Henning Conle from Duisburg.
Dingler is said to have supported the AfD hidden in the past. The Bundestag administration therefore imposed a punitive allowance of almost 400,000 euros against the party in 2020. Dingler, on the other hand, informed the AfD before the current donation that the money for the campaign “comes from its own assets” and that payment “was not in particular on behalf of third parties,” said a Weidel spokesman the previous day.
