Donald Trump has repeatedly described the verdict in the hush money trial against him as politically motivated fraud. US Vice President Kamala Harris responds to the allegations on a late night show – and finds clear words for Trump.
US Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on the television show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” commented on the hush money trial against Donald Trump. Harris said on Kimmel about the convicted ex-president: “The reality is, fraudsters don't like getting caught.” Trump had previously described the verdict against him as fraud and blamed his election opponent, US President Joe Biden, for it.
Harris responded on the show to allegations of a politically motivated verdict by defending the integrity of the trial: A jury of twelve people looked at evidence and facts over six weeks and unanimously found Trump guilty. Trump had a defense attorney who was involved in selecting the jury and calling and questioning witnesses. “I believe Americans want a president who will show responsibility to the people,” Harris concluded, referring to the November election. She said about Trump later in the interview: “He is a hypocrite who sets different standards for himself than for others.”
Jimmy Kimmel also poked fun at Trump on the show. The ABC late-night host makes no secret of being a Democratic supporter. So next week he will take part in a party fundraiser in Los Angeles. There he will interview Biden and former President Barack Obama.
The background to the taunts is a court ruling against Trump. The former president was found guilty last week on 34 counts in connection with hush money for porn actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. Daniels claimed she had sex with Trump. The sentence is to be announced on July 11th. Trump's lawyers have already announced an appeal.
